Éigse na Brídeoige 31st January - 2nd February 2020

Éigse na Brídeoige, a long established cultural festival will be holding the 28th Éigse festival in January 2020 in venues throughout the Gaeltacht villages of Uíbh Ráthach Co Kerry – Cathair Dónal, An Dromod, Baile ‘n Sceilg, An Coireán (Waterville) and An Gleann.

The Éigse is bi-lingual with a headphone simultaneous translation for Irish language events.

Migration will be a central theme of Éigse 2019 – a topic which is very relevant to Iveragh as it is to all of rural Ireland at the moment. The population of Iveragh continues to drop and the ratio of elderly/young people continues to get bigger. The Éigse will be addressing these issues from a historical perspective and attempting to identify solutions - particularly looking at inward migration as a means of combating the problem and enriching the social structure of one of the most strikingly beautiful areas in the country.

Ag cíoradh ceisteanna a bhaineann le imirce/eisimirce a bheimid agus ag díriú ar réiteach na faidhbe.

But, the Éigse won’t be all doom and gloom - there will be plenty of music, song and craic to raise the spirits!   Over the weekend there will be:

  • Léachtanna/Lectures
  • Fóram Oscailte/Open Forum
  • Seoltaí Leabhar/Book Launches
  • Ceardlann/Workshop
  • Scannán/Film
  • Ceol agus Craic

I measc imeachtaí na hÉigse beidh ceolchoirm le David Power agus Breanndán Begley, léactanna/cainteanna le Piaras Mac Éinrí, Ray O’ Sullivan, Carol Power, Síobhra Aiken, Paddy Bushe agus Tim Dennehy, fóram oscailte le Piaras Mac Éinrí, Brendan O’Keefe, Sorcha Pollak agus daoine eile, seoladh leabhar leis an bhfile Micheál Ó Siochrú agus Binneas.
