Fishing In South West Kerry
|
South West Kerry is an Anglers Paradise with Lake, River, Shore and Deep Sea Angling to choose from, it appeals to all Anglers. The fishing season opens on 17th January and closes on 30th September.
Waterville has two main river systems -
1) The Commeragh River
2) The Inny River
Lough Currane, this is the largest lough on the system and is virtually the first pool on the Cummeragh River. The lough is 3 miles long and just under 2 miles at its widest. Ghillies are available, providing boats and engines. Due to their vast experience and knowledge of the lough, better catches are usually obtained. For the more experienced Angler, boats and engines are available for hire, but care is advised, due to the rocky nature of the lough. Over 90% of Specimen Sea Trout (6lbs plus) in Ireland, are hooked on this famous lough.
Lough Deriana, this is the largest and perhaps the most beautiful of the upper lakes. It is 2 miles long and approximately 1 mile wide. Fishing is by boat and available by ticket.
Lough Cloonaghlin, this lake is around 1 miles long. It is noted for producing large bags of Sea Trout. Salmon are also found on this lake. Fishing is by boat and available by ticket.
Lough Namona, this is a lake of almost equal length and breadth, and has an area of almost 100 acres. Fishing is by boat and available by ticket.
Lough na hUisce, this is the smallest of the upper lakes. In recent years it has produced Sea Trout of over 10lbs. Fishing is by boat and available by ticket.
Lough Coppal, this lake has its own river system. The lake is miles long and aroung 1/2 a mile wide. Fishing is by boat and available by ticket.
Lough Tooreenbog, Adoohig, Nambrackdarrig, Coomeatheun, Coomrooanig, these are all small hill lakes, containing their own species of Brown Trout, that rise freely to a fly, approached by short walks along the hills. Fishing is usually free and from the banks.
Sea Angling, if you wish to add variety to your fishing, a day of sea angling is highly recommended. Many records for the heaviest types of fish are held in our waters, and Valentia is a noted deep sea fishing location. Fully licensed boats are available, taking parties of Anglers. There are many excellent locations for shore angling (maps available on request). Rods & Reels for hire.
Shore Angling- a wide variety of species can be caught from the shore including Bass, Ray, Pollack, Conger Eel, Cod, Flounder, Wrasse, Mullet, Bull Huss and of course Mackerel. Stingray or Tope have also been known to be caught form the shore. |
