Foundations Laid For Mick O’Dwyer Statue
|
Work is underway to erect a statue to local GAA legend Mick O’Dwyer. This project is being brought to fruition by The Mick O’Dwyer Dedication Committee who invited submissions for a memorial sculpture of Mick O’Dwyer, which will be located alongside the public path on an area known as Mick O’Dwyer Park (Formerly Barrack Field) The purpose of the memorial is to capture and communicate the determination and indomitable spirit of the man, in a manner that will inspire both residents of the village and visitors to the area. The group in co-operation with IRD Waterville wee successful in their application for Leader Funding and Alan Ryan Hall was the successful sculptor and Gary Galvin was the successful contractor when the tendering process was completed.
The picture below shows members of the committee and building contractors at the laying of the foundation for the statue which they hope will be in place for the summer season
